Generations of families have listened to Shirley McDougal make stories come alive with her endless repertoire of gestures, rhymes, songs, and voices. Her witch’s cackle is world class. She’s the ideal storytime lady – her silver-haired top knot, her strong, lilting singing voice, the animation in her book reading, kids are mesmerized. Shirley and her puppet friend, Bear, who sits on Shirley’s lap during storytimes, are retiring in May, after 37 years. Sad news for her legions of fans. She holds the record for the longest serving public service employee in MCDL history. I speak for all of us at MCDL and the thousands of children Shirley has given the joy of reading. Someone like Shirley only comes along once in 37 years. We thank Shirley for her service and wish her all the best in her retirement. She will be greatly missed. Director’s Notes by Carole Kowell Shirley and Bear Sue Giurbino , Outreach Customer Service Clerk Mary Oldfield , Buckeye Customer Service Clerk Debbie Prante , Outreach Customer Service Clerk We also wish a happy retirement to several additional staff members. Thank you for your combined 44 years of dedicated service.
